Dr.
Sells grew up on a dairy farm in Hardin County, Kentucky, near
Elizabethtown. He took a special interest in 4-H while in grade
school and high school, winning several awards on the local and
state level. He went to school in Hardin County, graduating from
West Hardin High School in 1966. While in high school he met Juanita
and they married after his 2nd year in college. He graduated from
the University of Louisville in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Chemistry and then entered the University of Louisville
Dental School, graduating in 1974.
After graduating from Dental School, Dr. Sells moved with his family
to Benton, Kentucky. At that time, the Sells' first daughter, Alicia,
was 3 years old. A year and a half later the Sells' second daughter,
Christy, was born. They are both now registered dental hygienists
in the practice. Dr. Sells now has 4 grandsons: Skyler 10, Quinn
6, Dylan 5 and Carson 3.
Dr. Sells has taken numerous courses in allphases of dentistry including
pediatric, cosmetic, orthodontic, endodontic (root canal therapy),
periodontal (gum treatment), dental implants, infection control
and sterilization, and sedation dentistry.He received his Fellowship
in the Academy of General Dentistry in 1998 and earned Mastership
in 2003.
The Academy of General Dentistry is an international
organization of 35,000 general dentists. Earning the Fellowship
Award means completing more than 500 hours of continuing education
courses within 10 years and passing a rigorous fellowship examination.
The Mastership requires an additional 600 hours of continuous education.
The Academy is not a requirement, but a commitment to continuing
dental education and to giving patients the best possible care.
Dr. Sells has been a member of the Benton Kiwanis
Club for 26 years and a deacon at the Benton Church of Christ for
seven years. His professional memberships include the International
Orthodontic Society, The American Orthodontic Society, The Functional
Orthodontic Society, the American Association of Cosmetic Dentistry,
Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, the Purchase Dental
Society, the Kentucky Dental Association, and the American Dental
Association. He is also a member of the International Brotherhood
of Magicians.
Magic is Dr. Sells' main hobby and he is always ready
to share a magic trick, whether with a young patient in his dental
chair for pediatric or orthodontic treatment, or before an audience
of school children, for whom he occasionally gives classroom dental
presentations. "Dentistry is fun and it is exciting to see the new
techniques to keep our patients smiling."
Dr. Sells and his staff work as a team to make each
patient's dental experience as pleasant as possible -- in order
to achieve true "Gentle Dental Care."
